Comprehensive community empowerment initiatives in Kakamega County.

Education & Capacity Building

Goal: Strengthen the capacity of community members and grassroots institutions to participate in governance, advocacy, and sustainable development.

  • Train community members (women, youth, PWDs) on leadership, governance, and social accountability.
  • Build functional community networks and movements for advocacy.
  • Strengthen organizational capacity in program management, reporting, and financial management.
  • Enhance civic education and public participation in county governance processes.
  • Promote digital literacy and responsible use of technology for development.

2025 Results: 420 community members trained, 18 workshops conducted, CSO network expanded to 82 members.

Health Governance & Social Accountability

Goal: Improve access, quality, and accountability of public healthcare services.

  • Advocate for full implementation of the Kakamega Health Service Act 2022.
  • Strengthen community monitoring of health service delivery.
  • Increase transparency in drug supply, staffing, and financial management.
  • Build partnerships with County Health Management Teams and media.
  • Promote maternal and child health rights.

2025 Results: Shianda Health Centre operating 24 hours, 30% reduction in drug stock-outs, 6 media features on accountability.

Gender Based Violence (GBV) Prevention & Response

Goal: Reduce incidences of GBV and enhance access to justice and psychosocial support.

  • Raise awareness on GBV laws and policies at community level.
  • Provide legal aid, mediation, and referral services to survivors.
  • Strengthen community structures to prevent and respond to GBV.
  • Engage men and boys in prevention initiatives.
  • Advocate for enforcement of GBV-related legislation.

2025 Results: 112 awareness forums, 45 survivors received legal aid, 60 accessed counseling, 20 male champions trained.

Climate Change & Smart Agriculture

Goal: Build resilient households through climate-smart agriculture and sustainable livelihoods.

  • Promote kitchen gardening and diversified farming systems.
  • Train farmers on climate-smart agricultural practices.
  • Strengthen women-led farming groups and table banking initiatives.
  • Increase household food security and income generation.
  • Promote environmental conservation and disaster preparedness.

2025 Results: 75 kitchen gardens established, 25 goats and 150 chickens distributed, 12 farmer groups strengthened.

Child Protection & Rights

Goal: Safeguard the rights and welfare of children in safe, inclusive environments.

  • Raise awareness on children's rights and child protection laws.
  • Support implementation of Return-to-School policy for teenage mothers.
  • Promote child participation in decision-making processes.
  • Strengthen parenting skills among caregivers.
  • Establish and support child protection community networks.

2025 Results: 25 child rights forums, Return-to-School policy reinforced in 30 schools, 240 caregivers trained.

Governance & Civic Engagement

Goal: Promote good governance, transparency, and citizen participation.

  • Civic education and voter awareness.
  • Social accountability and public participation forums.
  • Monitoring of public service delivery.
  • Community dialogue with duty bearers.

2025 Results: CSO network expanded to 82 organizations, increased citizen participation in county budgeting forums.
